A 29-year-old man is under arrest after stabbing his 66-year-old mother and 71-year-old stepfather, who later died, police said.
Why did he attack them?
The couple had reportedly asked their son, Christopher McKinney, to stop playing video games in the bedroom of their Madison Heights apartment on Friday because they wanted to go to bed — but he refused, according to WDIV-TV (Channel 4).
A conflict ensued.
The son punched his mother in her face, and then hit his stepdad, said Madison Heights Police Chief Corey Haines. The stepfather then got a knife from the kitchen to defend himself, but the son wrestled it away.
Then, Haines told WDIV, the son stabbed his mom and stepdad.
A neighbor said he found McKinney in the hallway, the TV station reported.
And then police arrived to the bloody scene, and got accounts of what happened from the two victims. Police said McKinney also assaulted a fire lieutenant attempting to give first aid.
The stepfather died four days after the incident.
Police told WDIV McKinney has a criminal history that includes assault charges that were later dropped.
