Boston Top Cop William Gross Retires, Eyes Mayoral Race

Boston Police Commissioner William Gross, who is contemplating entering the race to become the city’s next mayor, has announced his retirement, reports Boston.com. Gross, who became the Boston Police Department’s first Black commissioner in 2018, called the job an “honor and a privilege.”

He added: “My heart will always remain alongside my brothers and sisters of the BPD, who over the course of my 37-year career have become my village. I will continue to be one of their biggest champions as I move forward with my next chapter.” BPD Superintendent Dennis White has been named as his  replacement: he’ll be the second African American to hold the position.
