Police are looking for two suspects after they say a gunman opened fire in a Philadelphia mall, killing a 21-year-old man.
The shooting occurred inside the crowded food court of the Philadelphia Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia around 5 p.m. Monday after police say a fight occurred, and then at least one person pulled out a gun and started shooting, NBC 10 is reporting.
Dominic Billa, 21, was shot multiple times in the chest and was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m., reports indicate. He was the stepson of a detective assigned to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office’s homicide/non-fatal shooting unit, according to reports.
His family is mourning his loss.
“I’ll never be the same, never. I’m broken. I’m literally broken,” his mother Nakisha Billa, told Action News 6 ABC.
Dominic Billa had been preparing for the next stages of his life, hoping to study carpentry and learning how to build and repair cars, reports indicate.
People who were in the mall at the time of the shooting told NBC 10 they heard what sounded like 20 shots.
“The bullets were coming our way,” Jamie Yeimnieletona told the station.
She said it sounded like a balloon popping at first, then the sound kept repeating, and people started running, she added.
The mall was locked down as SWAT and K-9 teams searched for the suspects, but not arrests have been made, reports indicate.
Police are still on the hunt for two suspects, who they believe got away on a SEPTA bus, 6 ABC is reporting.
Police are reviewing surveillance video.
