Officers arrested a 36-year-old man and seized a handgun after the man fled from officers during a traffic stop, only to have them meet him outside his home a short time later.
Around 6:45 pm officers saw the man drive the wrong way down a street marked with a do-not-enter sign near 3rd and Yesler.
When officers turned on their emergency lights to try and pull the man over, he sped away.
Rather than chasing the man, officers went to the address listed on the truck’s registration and found the suspect climbing out of his truck, which was parked on the sidewalk in the 2200 block of E. Alder Street.
Officers arrested the man for eluding police, a felony. The man said he had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening and was concerned about getting pulled over. He agreed to let officers search his vehicle, and police found a loaded handgun in a tool chest in the truck.
Police obtained a warrant to draw blood and determine whether the man was intoxicated, and booked him into the King County Jail for eluding.
