Puerto Rican officer arrested for $1,300 Home Depot shoplifting attempt while in uniform

A police officer in Puerto Rico was arrested after what may be the most daring -or foolish- shoplifting attempt of 2020.

46-year-old Fernando Leon Berdecia was taken into custody after San Juan Police learned that he attempted to walk off with $1,300 in Home Depot merchandise.

While the crime itself is bold enough, the icing on the cake comes from the fact that he carried out the aforementioned offense while still in uniform.

The incident took place on Monday night.

According to the New York Daily News, Henry Escalera, the commissioner of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, said Leon Berdecia was suspended from the force.

Berdecia was released on a $10,000 bond and is set to attend court in December.
